Join Emma the Space Gardener as she explores gardening on Earth… and beyond! In this episode, Emma talks to Dr John Z Kiss, space plant biologist. Dr Kiss has worked on eight plant experiments that flew in space and made exciting discoveries about how plants respond to light and gravity.

Gardeners of the Galaxy: episode 5 script
Hello and welcome to episode five of Gardeners of the Galaxy, a podcast for all of the sentient beings in the Universe who have a passion for plants. I am Emma the Space Gardener, and I will be your host as we explore gardening on Earth… and beyond!
This is a very exciting episode because I have been talking to Dr John Z. Kiss, a space botanist who has conducted eight experiments in microgravity. Using the model plant Arabidopsis, Dr Kiss explores how plants respond to environmental stimuli such as gravity and light. Last year he and his collaborators were honoured with NASA’s Group Achievement Award for “outstanding contributions to enabling exploration” for their collaboration with the European Space Agency on the Seedling Growth-3 project.
I am really grateful to John for taking the time to tell us a little bit about his work and how he became a plant space biologist, and why astronauts love plant experiments.
