The pros we spoke with were quick to share six common fall decorating mistakes that are thought to make a space fall flat. Avoid these pitfalls to ensure that your home shines this autumn, both indoors and out.

Fall is all about embracing warm, comforting textures in your wardrobe, and this extends to your home, too. Your seasonal decor scheme just isn't going to be complete without these touches,Shalmai Keim, the founder of Shalmei Interiors & Designs, explains. She urges people to avoid solely decking out their homes with paper and plastic items and instead opt for accessories that have a little more to offer material-wise.

"Incorporating textures like chunky knits, woven baskets, or other natural textures can create a more inviting space," she says.

Rather than heading to the store and purchasing brand new fall decor every year, think about investing in pieces that you will be excited to display season after season.

«I've found that my most beloved decor pieces are the ones I unearth from storage every year,» Elissa Hall, the founder of EDH Interiors, says. «The ritual of pulling out a favorite blanket, or decorating for Halloween with items imbued with fond memories as the weather turns can be so satisfying.»

Selecting pieces that you plan to hold onto for the long haul is also much more budget-friendly and sustainable than re-buying everything you need year after year. Rather than giving into the latest trends, set your sights on items
