Lavender, the beloved favorite of every household, brings with it a myriad of associations that we should take the time to understand!
Lavender is a flowering herb that belongs to the mint family. There are over 40 species of these plants, with the most common being English lavender.
Native to the Mediterranean region, it thrives in sunny climates with billowy green foliage and beautiful purple flowers, giving off a pleasant aroma. Both its leaves and flowers are popular to make perfumes, soaps, and sachets for scenting linens. The flower also has <a href=«https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=» https: target="_blank" rel=«noopener»>antiseptic
and soothing properties.Lavender flowers symbolize purity, grace, elegance, and healing. Its old French name, “lavendre”, means “to wash”, refers when people use to add it to scent bathwater and washing vinegar.
The color purple has noble connotations as well – symbolizing royalty, luxury, and mystery. Additionally, its soothing scent evokes feelings of relaxation and tranquility.
With its medicinal properties, lavender also represents healing, protection, and cleansing.
Since the ancient times, lavender has been used to scent holy water, incense, and oils for spiritual rituals, as it signifies purity of the soul and protection against evil. Both Greek and Roman societies linked lavender to innocence and virtue.
The light purple shade of lavender flowers reflects feminine nature, something people associate with springtime and delicate beauty.
Lavender’s soothing aromatic properties evoke grace, nurturing, and calmness, too.
Lavender was the flower of choice in mummification and perfumery since ancient Egypt for its healing and protective qualities. People still keep these flowers

Ranging from $500 to $5,000 per kilogram, saffron, or the Red Gold as it is commonly referred to, takes a total of about 150,000 flowers to produce just one kilogram! Now you know why it would be a great idea to have its plant at home!
Sowing a seed directly into the ground, nurturing it, and reaping the rewards is one of the easiest gardening activities you can do—yet many gardeners don’t. There are many reasons to direct sow. Often, you’ll have earlier harvests because the seeds will germinate when it’s the perfect time to grow, and stronger seedlings because transplant shock isn’t an issue. Planting seeds in general (instead of buying transplants) gives you more varietal options, and you can also save a lot of money (1 packet of 30 to 150 seeds often costs less than a 6-pack of plants). And then there is the personal satisfaction factor. Ask any child who has planted a sunflower seed how they feel when that flower towers over their head, and you’ll understand what I mean.

Common juniper (Juniperus communis) is one of only three conifers native to the UK. It’s a member of the cypress family and grows on chalk or limestone in lowland areas, and moors, woodland and cliffs in northern Britain. Juniper is in decline in wild populations and has been designated a UK Biodiversity Action Plan priority species. This special tree has disappeared from several areas in the south of England. Many remaining colonies are so small that they’re considered functionally extinct. Scotland is now the stronghold for 80 per cent of the UK’s juniper trees.
Do note that there are no pure black lotus flowers – they have more of a deep purple hue. Nelumbo ‘Momo Botan,’ Nelumbo ‘Empress,’ and Nelumbo ‘Purple Joy’ are some of the most popular deep purple-black examples. Sometimes, people also refer to black Hellebores as black lotus.
