We (understandably) only really celebrate trending and popular home paint colors—especially during Color of the Year season. But now, Sherwin-Williams is looking to add a new trend to their palette.
The paint brand decided to create a way to feature overlooked colors and give a nod to shades that just don’t get enough love. It officially launched a new campaign called The Loneliest Color, in collaboration with Harlem couturier Dapper Dan.
The title goes to Kingdom Gold, a deep yellow color with green undertones. It's Sherwin-Williams’s least popular color—millions of gallons of paint are sold each year across their top neutral-colored hues, but Kingdom Gold has sold under 11,000 gallons of paint since its initial launch (which was 14 years ago).
Despite those disparaging stats, Sherwin-Williams and Dapper Dan have worked to help buyers reimagine their spaces with Kingdom Gold. To add a striking statement color and refresh a room’s energy, Sherwin-Williams Director of Color Marketing Sue Wadden recommended working with small decor accents like throw pillows or artwork.

“Incorporating gold into a color collection is about finding the right balance and harmony with existing hues, the mood, the space, the light, and the desired impact,” Wadden said in a press release. “With a unique hue like Kingdom Gold SW 6698 (137-C5), make spaces personal, and experiment with variations of complementary colors, textures, and decorative pieces."
The bold shade also works for accent walls or larger spaces that need a little extra vibrancy. It’s perfect for dopamine decor and has plenty of eye-catching complementary colors that have the power to completely transform your space.
