As the list of picks and predictions for Color of the Year 2025 grows, we’re seeing an unexpected trend—that there is no real trend. And the just-announced Behr Color of the Year 2025 pick, Rumors, continues the non-trend: Behr’s Rumors is a striking red that both conveys a sense of nostalgia and fits neatly into some of today’s top decor looks, including soft luxury and the buzzy unexpected red theory.
While Rumors fits into several wider decor trends, it continues the recent streak we’re seeing of color trends—specifically, 2025 color of the year predictions—going in very different directions. While we’ve never quite seen unanimity, in years past, there’s been some consensus, with a handful of different paint companies and color authorities picking similar colors, often different shades of white or blue. This year (though we’re still early in the color of the year race), predictions are wide-ranging, with blue and green picks and now, with the Behr Color of the Year 2025 announced August 21, a red.

“We landed on rumors as this really approachable, versatile red that coordinates nicely with colors that people already have in their home,” Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at BEHR Paint, tells Better Homes & Gardens.
A throwback to red kitchens and dining rooms of the ’90s, Rumors is a bold red. Unlike the cherry red of decades past, though, Rumors has brown undertones, which help ground the color and give it a more nature-inspired feel than other red hues. The color is reminiscent of the famed California redwoods or love-it-or-hate-it rich Georgia clay—while you might not immediately associate red with nature, Rumors does really lean into its organic roots.

Even if you aren't fortunate enough to live next to a meadow of wildflowers, you can still capture their untamed beauty in a container or garden this summer by planting cosmos. Cosmos come in various colors, from burgundy to pink to white. Mix them up for a more natural look, like a wildflower meadow. Bonus: this colorful flower, native to tropical America, attracts birds and butterflies with its cheery blooms. Because of their wildflower characteristics, cosmo flowers are considered invasive in some environments. Cosmos are prime not only for containers but for creating a mass of color in borders or backgrounds or as a filler among shrubs.
ORGANIC FARMING and gardening have always been based on the principle of feed the soil, not the plant. I recently got some expert advice for doing that, and also learned more about why our diligent soil consciousness matters so much, with the co-directors of the nonprofit Real Organic Project, a farmer-led organization advocating for food produced in concert with healthy soils and pastures.

Spinach is a cool weather favorite, with leaves that sprout up and grow rapidly in both spring and fall. It has a relatively short growing season, but its yield is impressive—if it has the right companion plants by its side to help it thrive.

Transport yourself back to the beginning of summer. You planted a few tomato plants in the hopes you'd have a summer full of tomato sandwiches, tomato pies, and simple lunches of juicy tomato slices with a simple dressing of olive oil, salt, and cracked pepper. A few months later, and one of your tomato plants is going above and beyond. It's delivering a bounty of rich, flavorful tomatoes, and you're wondering how you can recreate this harvest next summer.
