There’s been one saying at the forefront of everyone’s minds the past couple weeks: very mindful, cutesy, demure. If you've opened any social media app lately, you know the instantly sensational quote comes from TikTok creator Jools Lebron. In the original TikTok, which now has an extraordinary 4 million likes and over 40 million views, Lebron references her workplace makeup—but the catchphrase has been everywhere since her post went viral, and it's officially made its way into the interior design world.
Paint company Dunn-Edwards has taken a colorful approach to the trend by creating a palette that's giving (obviously) mindful, cutesy, and demure, so you can channel that energy whenever you walk through your door.
Lebron’s original video focuses on how to balance looking professional and cute when it comes to doing your makeup for work. But it can be applied to pretty much anything, and people continue to give it a new meaning.
We tapped Lauren Hoferkamp, head of color and design at Dunn-Edwards, to get an exclusive look into how «mindful and demure» inspired its latest color palette.
“When we think 'very demure' in terms of paint colors, we look at the cutesy colors presentable in multiple settings that you can incorporate into several design aesthetics,” Hoferkamp says. “Whether they’re being used as the primary focus in a space or as accents, this palette of paint colors will add a sense of ‘demure.'"
Dunn-Edwards is putting a twist on its selection of playful pastels to give you insight on incorporating them into your home. Hoferkamp looked at shades that come across as delicate and not too “over the top” to curate the palette.
The seven colors that encompass the mindful and demure trend include:

Because the Southern growing season overlaps the spring and fall migration times of the ruby-throated hummingbird, and red is by far their favorite color, these blossoms will summon them to your garden.

Even if you aren't fortunate enough to live next to a meadow of wildflowers, you can still capture their untamed beauty in a container or garden this summer by planting cosmos. Cosmos come in various colors, from burgundy to pink to white. Mix them up for a more natural look, like a wildflower meadow. Bonus: this colorful flower, native to tropical America, attracts birds and butterflies with its cheery blooms. Because of their wildflower characteristics, cosmo flowers are considered invasive in some environments. Cosmos are prime not only for containers but for creating a mass of color in borders or backgrounds or as a filler among shrubs.
While mums are particularly popular during the fall season for their lasting power and bright multi-colored blooms, they aren't the only stars of the show for this upcoming season.
Fall color doesn't have to mean a bunch of blowing and raking. With these tidy bushes, you can complement the foliage already in your yard with new bursts of seasonal hues—and without the raining down of spent leaves. Though we can't deny the magic of bright red foliage pouring from a maple in peak season. If you're looking to add even more fall color to your yard, stop looking up and start maximizing the greenspace at ground level.
There's a perpetual flip-flopping of trends when it comes to interior design, and there are two styles in particular that always seem to be playing a popularity tug of war: minimalism and maximalism.
