The simple answer is no—watering your lawn when the sun is shining won't kill it or prevent it from growing well, but there are certain times that are better than others to keep your lawn looking pristine.

While watering your grass in the sun won't harm it, the best times to water your lawn are not at the peak of the summer heat in the middle of the day. In fact, the best two times in the day to water are the early hours of the morning and early evening before the sun goes down.
Why? Watering your grass when the temperatures aren't at its highest peak will help the water absorb into the soil more.
While watering your grass will always keep your grass hydrated, there are certain times that won't be as beneficial. If you water your grass too late in the evening after the sun sets, your lawn will remain saturated as temperatures drop. Watering your grass at night could also cause it to rot which could increase the probability of fungus and unwanted insects.
