Iced tea has been on the menu since the 1870s. What made the iced tea novel wasn’t the tea but the ice, which was quite a luxury back then. Tea is rich in polyphenols, which are a type of antioxidant. These wonderful nutrients hunt for cell-damaging free radicals in the body and detoxify them.
If you’re a southerner, you likely grew up knowing that iced tea was meant to be sipped on while in a rocking chair on the porch. It also needed to be sweet. The sugar needs to be added when the tea is hot. If the sugar is added after the tea is cool, then it’s just going to be iced tea with sugar, not sweetened iced tea. There are so many ways to enjoy iced tea; one way is to celebrate National Iced Tea Day on August 21, 2022. Use social media to share your celebration on this day.
