It’s time to start thinking about getting your garden ready for spring, and with the season comes new (and timeless) garden trends. If you haven’t heard of a moon garden before, the idea is both straightforward and unique. A moon garden allows you to focus not only on how your plants will look in the daytime, but also at night.
This isn’t just about lighting, though. A moon garden should include plants that look different at night than they do during the day.
This means choosing plants that reflect the light of the moon; white and light-colored plants can literally glow under moonlight, creating a garden that feels magical as soon as the moon rises.
If you’re looking to create your very own moon garden in your backyard, there are a few key elements you’ll need to consider when picking out plant varieties. Fortunately, moon gardens are actually fairly easy to create, as they don’t necessarily require you to rearrange the entire layout of your garden.

With any moon garden, white or silver plant varieties will always work best. They become luminescent underneath the light of the moon, giving off a glow that almost makes each bloom provide a light of its own. The fullest white flowers will give off the most impressive reflections.
You should also consider the height of each bloom in your garden. White butterfly bushes or hydrangeas will grow high and provide staggered blooms on their bushes, while white tulips will stand a little lower and show off individual blooms of light.
