I’M OPENING my garden on Saturday June 8 from 10 AM to 4 PM as part of a weekend of events in my Hudson Valley, N.Y., community, that also includes the spectacular garden of Peter Bevacqua and Stephen King (above) nearby, two plant sales, and more. Tickets are on sale now (links at the bottom of the page); last year they sold out, so we’ve upped the numbers a bit but….don’t dally!
At Peter and Stephen’s in Claverack, N.Y., topiary artist Ken Selody of Atlock Farm will be on site with his potted creations, a perfect offering set against the backdrop of the garden’s dramatic topiary hedging. Don’t miss a chance to see this 2.5-acre series of visual experiences, from formal to wildish, that Peter and Stephen have created. Also open 10-4 Saturday the 8th.
Here at my Copake Falls garden all day with a truckload of irresistible botanical goodies will be Broken Arrow Nursery. They will be accepting advance phone orders, too, until Wednesday, June 5, if there is something special you simply must have. Their website; phone is (203) 288-1026. Regular nursery hours resume April 1, if you need a phone consultation, or email meantime to sales [at] brokenarrownursery [dot] com.
These are benefit events: All ticket sales from my garden will be donated to two local nonprofits I love: the Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program in nearby Ghent, N.Y., and Turtle Tree Seed in Copake. Proceeds from the Bevacqua-King garden tickets will benefit the Claverack Free Library, and Columbia County Recovery Kitchen
Ours are just a couple of the events that are part of The Workshop Experience Weekend, June 8-9, 2024.

Here are some suitably horticultural ways to celebrate Ireland’s “40 shades of green”.
Plant pots are a staple of the garden and are fantastic for displaying your favourite flowers and plants both indoors and out. They’re great for all types of gardens and allow those without the luxury of green space to display their work on balconies, decked areas, and conservatories.

In a world increasingly focused on sustainable living, the choices we make extend to every corner of our lives, including our outdoor spaces. When it comes to garden furniture, the term "sustainable" goes beyond a mere buzzword – it's a commitment to a greener and more ethical lifestyle.
