I've been seeing life-size fairy wings (or angel wings) painted onto buildings and love the look but I don't have a large wall to paint one.
I do have a large fairy garden which would be perfect… so DIY fairy wings it is and this is how we did them for our garden:
Using a large piece of cardboard I sketched and cut out a wing shape.
Then hubby used it as a pattern for two fairy wings that were cut out of treated plywood.
We both sanded the plywood smooth paying special attention to the edges.
Next, I primer-painted the plywood wings white with outdoor paint.
Then I tripped on something in the garage and broke my hand So hubby took over and I supervised lol.
Both wings were spray painted with awesome spray paint: Rustoleum metallic turquoise. It says it's also a primer, but the color was more silvery than turquoise on unpainted wood, so we advise pre-painting the wood.
Next, we sketched a design onto poster board and he cut it out with an X-ACTO knife.
Laying our stencil onto the wing he spraypainted the stencil using leftover paints. We used poppy pink and pale blue.
One wing done...one to go...I'm pretty excited about the colors!
We chose to put the 4x4 post backed up to trees so we wouldn't need to paint the design on the back. It's right near the entrance to our Fairy Garden!
The hole was dug 3ft deep, the post cemented in, wings attached to a board for spacing, then leveled and bolted to the post, and the excess post cut off the top.
We love the whimsical look of the wings and to protect the paint from the weather we clear-coat sprayed it. I was thinking of painting the post or putting wording on it at some point.
Now anyone can become a fairy by standing in front of the wings!

Many of us wish we could have outdoor lights glowing year-round; sadly, knotted electric cords and high energy bills hold us back. Thankfully, technology has advanced. Today, I’d like to share how I made a DIY fairy light tree with Starbright’s solar-powered string lights that could stay on year-round. Having solar-powered lights eliminates the need for long electric cords. This project was sponsored by Starbright.
There are several things to consider before splashing water around your garden as there are no hard and fast rules that suit all plants. But the first step should be implementing preventative measures.
When you’re a child, you’re always crafting. Even the simplest bits and pieces that you find around the house are turned into clumsy but colorful works of art but, as we get older, we tend to lose some of that limitless imagination.
I got this idea from a school that involved their students in making a colorful rainbow rocky river. I knew it would give my own yard a beautiful burst of magical color and wanted to make my own DIY rainbow river rocks.
Coir is the fibrous husk and pithy dust that makes up the outer layer of a ripe coconut. Most of us don’t see this part because it’s removed before the fruits arrive in grocery stores, but it is widely available – as a soilless growing medium.Per the Cambridge Dictionary, the
Adding fun and magical garden features for kids can help to turn a typical family garden into something extra-special, a place where kids will always be delighted to spend some time. As spring arrives and the weather begins to warm, it is a good time to think about what fun features you might add to your outdoor space.
If you are unfamiliar with the term, «bolting» is the name given to the phenomenon when plants rush prematurely to flower and set seed. Bolting is, in essence, the process of plants hurrying to enter the reproductive phase of their growth.
I decided I wanted to grow something on the back of the house. It was a boring wall really; it needed a trellis. And I wanted to border it in some way but didn't want to spend much, so I decided to use logs as edging.

Just last week I braked for a roadside freebie: a tire! I tossed it in my trunk and headed straight to the store for spray paint and rope! This DIY tire wing planter project was similar to one I'd seen years ago and I was ready to make it mine.
