Gaze Burvill celebrates 30 Years of furniture making in Hampshire, with a new garden seat in locally sourced English Oak, craftsman made in Hampshire: ‘Amity’
Amity marks a new milestone for Gaze Burvill in its sourcing locally grown and milled English Oak for the seat. Since its inception, Gaze Burvill has upheld its commitment to minimising harm to the environment through careful sourcing of sustainably produced wood from the near Continent and the UK, but the production cycle grows even tighter with Amity. In addition, the first 100 seats will feature a small oak leaf insignia carved into the oak seat back, to mark the donation of £100 per seat to the charity ‘Action Oak’ given for each seat, which combats and researches oak disease, as a mark of Gaze Burvill’s commitment to positive change.
Beautifully comfortable, with understated, clean lines, and ingenious ‘Fox Wedge’ jointing which is particularly strong, the seat is a great choice for those who seek both contemporary craftsmanship and responsible environmental credentials.
The celebrated Court Seat, Gaze Burvill’s first design, celebrates its 30th birthday in 2023 – now a classic of garden seating, but which at launch 30 years ago set a new standard for furniture designed for the landscape and terrace. Designed by Parnham ‘School for Craftsmen’ alumnus Christian Gaze, who found inspiration in the wooden ship illustration on a box of ‘Bryant & May’ matches, the Court Seat was lauded for its contemporary styling, wonderful comfort, the very high standard of craftsmanship, including steam-bent back rails, and finally its choice of Oak instead of tropical hardwood.

There are hundreds of different species of aster, each ranging greatly in terms of growth habit, and varying in their specific needs. Though the Aster genus is quite large, the term “aster” is often used to describe a much smaller number of common plants. While annual asters are a popular choice among cut flower growers, flower gardeners also make use of perennials within the landscape and in naturalized wildflower beds and meadows.
A book about pesticides hardly sounds like a page-turner, but in the skilled hands of Rachel Carson, it became precisely that—and so much more. "Silent Spring," published in 1962, is widely hailed as the single most influential book on the environmental conservation movement. Carson's cool, meticulous arguments against the rampant spraying of toxic chemicals on crops, forests, and bodies of water resonated with a public largely unaware of what was going on, spurring them to action.
Orchids have been a popular houseplant since the Victorian era, when the passion for collecting these tropical beauties reached feverish heights, sending orchid hunters across the world in search of new and rare species. Learn how to grow and care for orchids so you can enjoy these magnificent bloomers for years to come.

I'm obviously not afraid of big projects and you shouldn't be either. This one just took some basic tools, easy to get materials, and determination.
