An Exercise in Barricade Building I’ve just prepared my bean trench and sown broad beans and peas – all quite straightforward and enjoyable. I then spent double the time erecting barricades to keep the foxes at bay.
I used to find that twiggy branches laid across the soil was all that was needed to deter cats, but foxes will just view them as playthings to drag round the garden, especially once the cubs arrive. So hurdles and fences all round the edge and netting over the top to stop them jumping in.
Fingers crossed the badgers stay away or further reinforcing will be necessary.

This week’s project is so fun. Although it uses some power tools, I would still say it’s beginner friendly- I was able to complete it in two days!
Retaining walls are important safety and soil conservation features in unstable sites. While some areas may require a professional or even an engineer to ensure sturdiness, less pitched and potentially dangerous areas will benefit from DIY retaining walls. You can build a retaining wall with many objects, often using ones that are found in the landscape such as rocks. Building a retaining wall on a slope should start with an assessment of landslide potential, steepness of the angle, and necessary height of the wall to contain soil. Walls in flat locations require less planning and are easier to construct safely.

I love fire pits for how they look like, the warmth they provide, of how family and friends gather around it and have a good time. The absolute satisfaction that comes from kindling the fire and leaning back comfortably, watching the flame and falling into a sweet sleep is a feeling you cannot replicate.
Rainwater harvesting is one of the most self-sufficient and environment friendly methods of using water. You are collecting water from the sky as it falls, all the while trying to utilize is as much as you can, and without a price tag looming on it. To put things into perspective, if an inch of rain falls on a thousand square feet space, you can harvest about six hundred gallons from it. Six hundred gallons is a real lot!
Garages are important for providing shelter and protection to your vehicles. The make is very important of the garages as this decides the total space for storage and the capacity for optimal protection. If you have multiple vehicles, you will consider a design that will provide maximum space.
