Halloween is just around the corner, and it's the perfect time to get crafty with some ghoulishly delightful DIY projects. This year, TikTok has been buzzing with creative ideas, from eco-friendly hanging ghosts to illuminating mini pumpkin string lights. Here are a few of our favorites that you can try yourself.
There’s nothing quite like a ghoulish little ghost for Halloween decor. Ashley, or @woodlarkblog on TikTok, created the cutest viral hanging ghosts that are totally compostable—meaning you’re making a cute craft without all the waste.
First, cut cheesecloth into about 10-inch squares. Now, to make your glue, combine a one to two ratio of cornstarch and water over low heat just until it starts to thicken. If you don’t have the time to make the glue yourself, you can also use Mod Podge. Soak your cheesecloth in the glue and wring it out to ensure most of the access glue is out. Then layer two cheese cloths over the top of anything circular—Ashley used a ball of foil inside a glass.
Once they dry, add some eyes and a mouth and thread a string through it to hang.
Kara Whitten, or @kailochic on TikTok, shared a fun way to make plain white candles a bit more festive. Place a few paraffin wax taper candles in a warm water bath—not so warm that they fully melt, but warm enough to soften them up.
After the candles are completely soft, keep them in the water to very slowly bend them around until you get some scary shapes. Once they’re bent and dried, use acrylic paint to draw on faces.
This craft works for just about any holiday season, but to give it that Halloween vibe, grab any of your metal Halloween cookie cutters, Mama Faith or @mamafaith114 on Tiktok told 4.8 million viewers.

Mums are synonymous with fall. Thanks to their late bloom period, these beautiful flowers make a much-welcomed addition to the home landscape. Potted mums from garden centers adorn porches, patios, and even indoor spaces. Though some choose to treat these flowers as an annual, many have found success wintering mums in garden beds. You may also wonder if you can divide mums. “Can you split mums” is a question we often hear during the fall months.
While searching through our archive of episodes we discovered something: There are a few specific plants we just can’t stop talking about. As the years have progressed here at Let’s Argue About Plants, we find ourselves experimenting with more and more varieties, so we have something new to report back to you on. But frankly, there are a core of plants that we could talk about every episode because they are just that good. We try to mix it up, but these stars have made it into more than a couple recordings—and rightly so. With that, we decided not to fight nature and give these stars their spotlight. In today’s compilation episode you’ll hear about Carol and Danielle’s top four plants…again…but for good reason. They are selections that no garden should be without, in our humble opinions.
It's the season of gifting, and nothing sticks with you quite like receiving an amazing—or an amazingly bad—gift. Our goal is to help you avoid the latter and perfectly tailor a gift to its recipient, whether it be your grandfather, your friend who has everything, or your hard-to-please tween.
Vacuum cleaners may seem like magic, but they're not designed to do it all. Most standard vacuums excel at cleaning up everyday dirt including dust, cobwebs, and crumbs, but they struggle against bigger messes that could clog their critical inner workings.
Have you ever been in your garden, tending to your blooms, and suddenly felt the buzz of a bee near you—only to find that it’s chosen you as its landing spot? So, What Does it Mean When a Bee Lands on You? Is it a sign of good luck, a spiritual message, or simply random behavior from our pollinator friends? Time to find out!

We’re in Yorkville, Illinois, visiting with Anita Drendel again. We saw some photos of her garden in the GPOD recently, and she’s back to share more of her favorites from the past few years.

DANVILLE, ILLINOIS — An elementary school was razed to the ground In 2006. The school was 92 years old and named after Stephen Douglas who debated Lincoln in the adjacent city park in 1858. Many Vermilion County Master Gardeners are retired teachers who wanted to maintain the site as an educational venue. Partnering with the city of Danville and local organizations, these ambitious Master Gardener/teachers formed a committee and created a community garden. Now the old school is fondly commemorated in the garden with a permanent plaque.
