Regardless of how you approach cleaning your home, there’s one thing that seems to be true across the board. According to experts, some regularly used items aren’t getting washed nearly as often as they should—and the answers might surprise you.
Marilee Nelson of Branch Basics says she’s noticed people are not washing their favorite water bottles nearly as often—or as thoroughly—as they should. In fact, she says these should get a deep clean at least once a week, if not more.
“To hand-wash your water bottle, disassemble and use a natural scrub brush or sponge with a non-toxic dish soap or all-purpose cleaning solution,” Nelson says, who also notes that dishwasher-friendly bottle should be placed on the top rack. If the water bottle is especially dirty, soak it in hot water and dish soap overnight and rinse in the morning.
If you don’t want to wash the whole bottle, Nelson says you can also focus specifically on the straw or mouthpiece using a straw brush. Then, once everything is fully dried, assemble and use as desired.
