Fans of Christie may recognise the house from her novels, particularly Poirot’sDead Man’s Folly, in which the murder takes place in Greenway’s boathouse. There is plenty of history in Greenway’s grounds, such as a World War Two air-raid shelter and Napoleonic gun battery. It is easy to see how the personality of this famous novelist shaped the gardens from the lawn where she used to play ‘clock golf’, to the family pet cemetery and the abundance of dahlias, her favourite flower.

Mother’s day in the UK is fast approaching. If you have a habit of forgetting until the last minute, you can always rely on a bunch of flowers to save the day. But, rather than just a standard bunch of daffodils from the petrol station, what else would make your mother really happy and inspired to bake you more cakes?
Britain has some of the best gardens in the world. The choice of which to visit is far larger than this selective list but at least it gives you somewhere to start planning this years outings.

Botany is the science of plant life. In other descriptions it is the study of plant science or plant biology. A botanist is one who studies botany.
Harlow Carr the RHS garden in Harrogate has a series of gardens through the ages. This sculpture is part of the offering for the Festival of Britain 1951. To me it looks a lot more modern than that but certainly none the worse.
