In this episode, Emma recaps the recent news for space gardeners, including the return to Earth of the SpaceX Cargo Dragon mission CRS-21. Dragon brought home space tomato seeds for the Tomatosphere project, the soil samples sent into space by astroecologist Morgan Irons, and Space Cargo Unlimited’s wine and vine cuttings.
As it’s the end of the Seed Week, the Gaia Foundation‘s annual celebration of the seeds that feed us, and the people who grow and tend them. Emma explores some seeds with space stories. Learn more about the first Australian seeds in space, the famous apple seeds that flew with Tim Peake, and the first Native American seeds in space.

I am recording this episode during Seed Week, the Gaia Foundation’s annual celebration of the life-giving seeds that feed us, and the remarkable people who grow and tend them. In the last episode, I talked about my 2021 project to trial heritage (or heirloom) salad varieties in my Hydroponicum. Heritage seeds can be thought of as seeds with stories, and I’m going to be talking about some seeds with space stories later in this episode. First though, let’s catch up on the recent news for space gardeners.
On 6 December 2020, SpaceX launched its 21st cargo supply mission (CRS-21) to the International Space Station. This was the first flight for the
