Mother’s Day has a way of sneaking up each year: Spring hits, and it’s time to start thinking about how best to show appreciation to the mothers in your life (pet moms included!). Maybe it’s through a candle, a good bottle of wine, or just a long chat on the phone—but if you’d like to put a bit more of a custom touch on your gift, all you have to do is scroll through social media to find fun, easy DIYs that show you exactly how to get it done.
Flowers are a classic Mother’s Day gift. But if you want something that lasts longer, try drying them out and framing them like TikTok creator @landonklucas did in a video she posted.
She starts by collecting a few flowers of different sizes and cutting the stem off of them. Then, she lays the flowers face down on a paper towel and puts another paper towel on top (like a little flower sandwich). She puts those paper towels in the microwave and places a heavy, microwave-safe plate on top. After microwaving the flowers for two minutes, she takes them out and lets them cool off, and they're ready to place in a frame.
One commenter claimed that two minutes was a bit too long for her flowers, which ended up burning. You can always microwave your flowers in 30-second intervals to ensure they dry out but don’t brown.
Beyond that, the craft was a success for other commenters, who called it “so pretty and simple.”
If you want to add even more of a flair to the framed flower idea, and make it extra special, consider adding some photos like TikTok creator @debtrette did. She didn’t press the flowers herself, opting to purchase a pressed flower set instead, and used a paintbrush to lightly apply clear glue on the backs of the Polaroid photos and flowers to make sure everything
