Moles in your lawn are unfortunate not to say annoying particularly as they are difficult to remove without killing them. Their main diet is earthworms, but, removing these valuable garden creatures is hardly worth while. They are more likely in sandy soils, but, can appear anywhere – especially in more rural areas.

There are some things that are said to help remove moles, but, they are not guaranteed to work permanently.
You can try these items placed in mole holes or tunnels (But they probably wont work)
The best method to remove moles is by using a trap. Pictures of trap setting in the above book are very helpful, as it’s easy to get this wrong if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Mole hills are unsightly but at least moles don’t do any real damage to plants, they are more a nuisance value than anything. If you really want to get rid of them, you may be best of employing the services of a professional mole catcher / killer. However, if you live in a  rural environment you may have your work cut out as moles are likely to keep returning.

It may be boring but what better way to set off your garden than by getting everything neat, tidy, sorted, spick and span.
Now part of this garden is down to crazy paving the Qualcast grass box is needed less and can be put to a different use. It looks like a ‘unibarrow’ has got in on the act to make a feature planter for these pansies.

White is the second most useful colour in the garden after green. I am progressively increasing the number and variety of white and grey plants that I grow.
This summer has been damp and the plants have grown lush. In some way this has contributed to a dramatic cut in the number of greenfly on my roses and other plants (perhaps they found other feeding grounds or did not mate as prolifically).

In the cold wet winter it is a good time to plan where to visit as the year improves. The South West is the obvious place to start your visiting tour of gardens containing exotic plants.

Mildew is an airborne fungus that requires wet weather and warmth to come to life. It is most visible during spring and autumn as the winter is too cold and in summer it may be too hot. The wetter spring and autumn is when the white powdery mold-like mildew shows up most.
