The National Reconnaissance Office develops, launches and operates surveillance satellites. Although the specifics of its satellites are classified, the details of the launches are not, and the NRO has a long history of designing mission patches for each launch.
Its latest launch (NROL-91) took place on 24 September 2022 on a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Delta IV Heavy rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
The NROL-91 logo design pays tribute to those brave individuals who sacrificed and laid it all on the line in the fight to preserve our freedom. In particular, it honours the heroism of our diminishing group of World War II veterans.
