Growing snake plants in hanging baskets is a lovely way to add greenery to your space. These hardy plants can lighten up both indoor and outdoor spaces. Here’s a simple guide to help you grow snake plants in hangers with ease.
You should pickSansevieria Trifasciata, Sansevieria Cylindrica, or Sansevieria Hahnii. However, the best one to grow is Sansevieria ballyi. It stays compact and has a slow to moderate growth rate – the best part, it trails!
To start the plant like Sansevieria ballyi go for a 6-8 inches wide hanging basket. It will be good for small plants for a few years. Post that, you can opt for a basket of 10-12 inches – remember, it would be a good idea to always go for a basket that’s wider.
For the growing medium, fill the basket with a loose, free-draining, sandy, or loamy soil for drainage and preventing rot. Cactus or succulent potting mixes work well.
Gently place the plant in the center of the basket. Fill around the roots with soil, leaving an inch of space at the top for watering.
Hang the basket near a north or east-facing window. For outdoors, pick a spot that gets filtered sunlight for most part of the day.
You should water the hanging basket snake plants every 1 or 2 months during the winter and spring. They are tolerant of low light and irregular watering and will survive droughts.
In hot climates, you should consider watering twice a day but not too much, as hanging baskets dry out sooner than regular pots.
