How to Make a Hanging Tire Planter

Some of you may have seen my post where I made a winter planter out of an old tire. Now that spring has arrived I wanted to give it a mini makeover and use it in my yard for the summer. I have two old trees in my back yard that I have hung hanging baskets from, this year I envisioned my tires hanging from them. See my easy step by step instructions below for this easy transformation.

DIY Backyard Swing

My husband really wanted a swing for us to use while the kids ran outside. So, I caved and told him to go for it! He’s a contractor, so he definitely has a lot of experience to whip up something like this in a day! He went to a local lawn care store and bought the actual swing. They can also be ordered online. They usually run around $200. Then he went to Lowes to get two 12 foot 6x6 posts and a 10 foot 2x12 boards (for the top part-to hang the swing on), chains to hang the swing, and a ton of 3 inch decking screws, and cement. He dug the holes to put the 6x6 posts with post hole diggers (he owns some through his business). He dug 32 inches in the ground and put the posts in and then added cement/water to make it more sturdy. Once he had the posts in, he added the top post (2x12’s-he cut the edges to give it a fancier look). He put blocks up there to hold the swing. He then screwed in metal hooks to hold the chains for the swing. Once he had all that done, he hung the swing. We absolutely love it and use it a lot when the kids are playing outside. Take a look!

Baby Crib to a Porch Swing

We just finished our back porch and wanted to add a porch swing, but all the ones we were looking at were very expensive! So, I had this brilliant idea to convert our son’s crib to a porch swing. We used our dining room chairs and couch arms as reference as how high to go, 17 inches in the back and 10 inches on the side. We used 1x3 to cap the arm rests and 1x3’s for back support. And to cap off the top. We used 2x4’s to put on the bottom for support and to extend them past each side of the crib and put a hole in it to put the rope to hang it! We had to find the rafters on our covered porch and put two rings to hang it! Check it out!

47 Free DIY Swing Set Plans For A Happy Playing Area

Swing sets are quickly becoming relics of the past, which is quite depressing. There was a time when kids stayed outdoors right from the moment they were done with school for the day until it was pitch dark at the night. From tree forts to play sets, kids loved getting muddy and sweaty in the sun, but that has declined ever since technology took over. So, if you’re looking to change the course of this tide and make your kids proactive, healthy, and in love with the outdoors, then you should definitely make them a personalized swing set.

Refurbished/Recycled Trampoline Swing!

«Galley Kitchen Walls 28 years of Blah» was our previous project here on Hometalk. We just finished putting together my outdoor Swing! I have been planning this for a while. It took some coaxing but Brad came around. So for just under approx $190.00 we made it happen. We did ask friends for help. Louis decided that pizza was payment enough to assist us. The steel Bracket that sells on the internet for $600 we got for free thru great friends. Without Leslie & Mark Detlefsen (welder) & Louis it would not have happened. I rated this «medium» difficulty because of the heavy lifting in the Florida heat. You can also use Swing Set brackets that accommodate 4x4 beams at the big box stores or from Amazon.
