I don't know about you, but I have tons of scrap wood and this little project was a great way to use some of it up! We made rustic wood lanterns for our mantel.
They turned out so nice, we decided to make a few more as presents for Christmas.
Hubby was a miter/table saw maniac! He cut all this up in one afternoon!
We glued, clamped, and nailed the frame together. Then attached it to the base. A nail gun made quick work of this project.
These are the lantern top pieces we assembled together.
We attached the top, gave them a coat of paint, and installed a hook on the top. They were so adorable with the red bows!
These are the ones on our mantel. We just love the way they came out! I might even make some larger ones for the porch this summer.

Whether you’re hiking, picnicking, or working in your garden, ticks are a year-round risk in the South. This native, selected by the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, will knock your socks off with its large, golden, featherlike plumes that appear in late summer and remain attractive through winter. Unlike other yellow prairie grasses, this sturdy, upright cultivar is no floppy pushover. It is an excellent choice for screening and creating dramatic sweeps of interest in the landscape.

Anemones are members of the Ranunculaceae or buttercup family, which also includes hellebores, clematis and aquilegia. The wood anemone (Anemone nemorosa) originates from Europe and, as its common name suggests, it is often found in woodland, though it also grows in grassland, heaths and hedge banks. Its pure white flowers carpet the woodland floor from March onwards, often mingling with the bluebells during April and May. Seeing these two graceful perennials shimmering together beneath the emerging tree foliage, makes any woodland visit a spring delight.
