Glidden
The Color of the Year 2025 announcements are well underway, and now there’s a new pick to add to the growing list with the Glidden by PPG Color of the Year 2025, Purple Basil. This nature-inspired shade was thoughtfully selected by the brand’s global color forecasting team, which gathered data from multiple sectors (everything from automotive to fashion) in order to make their decision. Purple Basil nods to a few other 2025 Color of the Year predictions, including Rumors by Behr and Violet by Minwax. Dare we say we see a trend: berry tones.
Purple Basil by Glidden is a warm, lush violet that actually leans a bit neutral. Indeed, it is bold and packs a punch, but it’s homey and subtle enough to be a paint color that those new to color can find security in. Whether you use it to add a splash of personality to your home’s exterior or to color drench a room in your interior, Purple Basil can fit right into an already-neutral home.
“Consumers are unapologetically selecting colors that are bringing them joy. They are worrying less and less about what other people think about their color choices,” Ashley McCollum, the PPG color expert for the Glidden brand, tells Better Homes & Gardens. “You spend so much time in your space, so why default to a neutral when you can make your space feel exactly the way you want for yourself and your family?”
The color selection follows the increasingly popular trend of mixing multiple styles, says Sarah Fishburne, director of trend and design at The Home Depot. Fishburne says that the color echoes what’s trending in all of interior design—reimagining traditional style, adding touches of quiet luxury, and hinting at nostalgia with artisanal and vintage pieces. Purple Basil is bold enough
