Wondering whether your favorite piece of Halloween decor is a bit too over the top to set out this year? As it turns out, many interior designers have a soft spot for seemingly tacky Halloween decorations, which can be styled to look extra festive and will bring the entire family joy.
Below, designers share six of their favorite go-to seasonal decorating techniques.
Think beyond solely decorating your front porch and extend your Halloween decor to the trees in your yard. Andrea Sinkin Jaffe, the founder of Andrea Sinkin Design, likes to make ghosts hang on branches by wrapping white sheets over styrofoam balls and drilling a string through them. If you'd like, you can use a permanent marker to draw eyes onto your ghosts for extra effect.
«They have that undulating movement to them when the breeze hits to make them extra realistic,» she says. «They’re not super scary, so they’re good for little kids and big kids—meaning adults.»
No yard? You can hang your ghosts indoors, for example, in the hallways and archways.

Easy to DIY and adhere to walls, mirrors, doors, and beyond using tape, black paper bats are one of Taylor Fusco's favorites.
«We love that you can create the most whimsical pattern with these bats, whether it's around your front door or weaving through your gallery wall,» the founder of Tay Fusco Design, says. «The best part is your littles can do it with you.»
You can leave your paper bats plain black or jazz them up a bit with stickers, sequins, glitter glue, and beyond if you're looking to get extra crafty.
